Newsletter | September 2020

Hello everyone!

Can you believe it’s already Fall and the Halloween season is heading into full swing? I love watching the leaves change colors, feel the air turn crisp, and drink my weight in apple cider and pumpkin spice. As much as I love those things, I’m more excited to share some announcements in this month’s wrap-up!

First of all I’d just like to give a quick shout-out for the National Hispanic Heritage Month (U.S.)! I don’t know about other countries, but in the U.S. I feel like we have holidays and celebrations for just about everything haha. This one is important to me as I’m half-hispanic myself (plus I’m certainly not going to pass up an opportunity to celebrate with extra tacos and flan).

Local Author Showcase

Last year I had a blast at the Annual Local Author Showcase and was looking forward to participating again this year. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the 2020 event will be virtual. I’m so happy that they decided not to cancel the event entirely, but I am sad that I won’t be able to give out swag and chat with readers. Regardless, I am participating and feeling really excited! I don’t have the official dates yet, but I am already scheduled to visit the library to record an interview that will be posted online for the event (I hope I don’t panic and go completely blank!).

Keep an eye on my social media for when I post the event dates and I’ll also be sure to share the link when the interview goes up! I hope you’ll watch and give a lil “Hello!”

Novella for a Review

As of October 1st, I’m issuing a new challenge/offer! If any of my books reach 50 reviews on both Amazon AND Goodreads then I’ll be writing up and publishing some bonus content! This is your chance to satiate your curiosity about my characters. I already have a few novellas planned in my mind, though I’ve been continuously putting them off to focus on the main series books, so this is your chance to motivate me into publishing these stories instead of letting them sit on a dusty shelf in my head!

“Why reviews?” you ask? Well reviews (and word of mouth) are the steam that keep the writing going. Reviews and ratings are what browsing readers look at and can make or break their decision to buy a book. Reviews (well positive reviews anyway lol) can bring in ad money, publishing deals, and other marketing help, but each review also makes an author sit back amazed that someone actually took the time to read something they labored on for months and months (I dance for each good review I get like a silly school kid haha).

If you could spare a lil moment of your time to write a review (honestly it can even be one word haha reviews don’t have to be novel-length so don’t feel intimidated) then I would be so thankful! I have some epic readers and hope that this is an opportunity for you all to get involved and be heard!

October is the month of buckle-down NaNo prep! 2020 has been unpredictable, stressful, and just plain UGH. Even so, I really would love to publish another book before we finally roll into 2021 so I’m going to be participating in the National Novel Writing Month challenge again this year in an attempt to get Vicinus finished and published. Wish me luck!

If any of you have ever thought about writing a novel, a short story, even a fanfic, then this could be the opportunity to kick some motivation into you and get that idea from your head to the page! Visit to find out more and let’s cheer each other on!

So that’s it for this month’s newsletter. I personally love the season of Fall and am loving the shift. Life has been a tad less than ideal lately, but books have always been a sanctuary and escape for me. 2020 can try its best to keep us down, but we won’t let it! I’ve told you my goals, now let’s just see if I can keep the negative vibes of 2020 at bay long enough to follow through…

Stay tuned…

Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can’t Stop Talking
by Susan Cain

I don’t not like non-fiction, it just isn’t what I usually gravitate towards. That being said, I kept hearing about this book and when John Cleese recommended it in an interview I knew I had to at least give it a look. I haven’t finished reading it yet, in fact my pace is a nice steady one-chapter-a-day, but each chapter I read has me interested and feeling as if at last someone is explaining elements of my self that I haven’t been able to explain or even fully realize before and it feels so refreshingly validating. Whether you’re “quiet” or “loud”, I’d recommend giving this book a read. It’s insightful, thought-provoking, and a useful tool for any human that interacts with other humans.
