Hello everyone!
I’ve got exciting news!! Revenge de los Muertos, the first book in the Fifth Sun urban fantasy series, has been made into an audiobook!
After speaking with readers, authors, and other opinions in the publishing community, one thing has become apparent: the love of audiobooks is on the rise.
When it comes to publishing a book, there are numerous costs involved both financial and time-wise. I’ve been fortunate enough to battle my way through the jungle that is publishing and take on almost every task myself to help keep costs affordable for my budget. With audiobooks, however, I can’t really do much except sign the check haha. I might try my hand at narrating books one day, but for now I really wanted to hire the experts. For this series in particular I wanted to hire two narrators. The books are told in dual POV and I felt that the narration should be the same.
Who will be handling Selah’s POV chapters? The ever talented Nichole James! She has truly been beyond kind and patient with me as I journeyed my way through learning this totally new process. I saw her pop up on my Instagram a little while back and then we connected on TikTok of all places! (You may have already seen her narrating snippets from my books over on social media). I’m really very excited to have her on board for this project.
Now the BIG question… Who will be narrating Rafael’s POV chapters? I knew he had to have an accent. I talked to Nichole and some friends about it and it was definite that authenticity was the way to go. So who did I cast?? Mexican actor, Pablo Azar! He’s done lots of work in the acting industry, the art world, and has even narrated books by Stephen King and Karen McManus so I was thrilled he was interested in the project. Most importantly, he’s incredibly nice and actually from Mexico!
Both Nichole and Pablo have been wonderful to work with and are very talented. They put a lot of effort into helping me produce this audiobook so if that’s a medium you enjoy then I hope you’ll give it a listen and leave the book/narrators a review!
Obviously I’d love to have all of my books made into audiobooks, but it’s expensive (I’m talking four digits a piece!). If this one does well then maybe I’ll try a Kickstarter to help me cover the costs of finishing the series! Truly my foray into the audiobook world is 100% for you. I don’t listen to audiobooks often at all, but so many people online and in-person have said they would love to read my books but only have time for audio. Hopefully this is a step to helping you be included!
Oh! One last thing. I decided to make this audiobook non-exclusive to Audible because despite the royalty cut I really want libraries to have access. Be sure to ask your local library to request a copy! (If for some reason it isn’t available yet on your favorite audiobook platform, just give it a week or so and by then the full distribution roll out should be complete.)
