NaNoWriMo 2022!

Hello everyone!

I’ve got exciting news for Lake Norman area locals!! In case you haven’t heard, NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) is coming up soon and this year I’m partnering with published authors Carrie Humphrey and Katherine L.E. White to put together a series of meet ups and events to help us all get ready for the challenge! We’ll have prep in October, writing in November, and a celebration in December! We’d love for you to sign up for the challenge on NaNoWriMo.org and join our official group there as well as meet up with everyone in person!

What is NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and it takes place from November 1st through the 30th. The original challenge is to write 50,000 words by the end of the month (that’s about 1,667 words a day), in other words almost an entire novel! (For younger genres, this could be considered the typical length of an entire novel itself!).

How do I sign up?

To participate, you go to NaNoWriMo.org and make an account. You can set your goals (doesn’t have to be 50k words), share a bit about your project, and gain access to a community full of fellow writers, professionals, tools, tips, resources, and more!

What if I don’t meet my writing goal?

Don’t panic! This challenge is purely for the purpose of motivation. If you don’t reach your word count goal, that’s okay! There are NO PENALTIES. If you wrote anything at all, that is worth celebrating! Progress is the goal, not numbers!

Where can I find out more?

Besides the official website, you can follow the official @NaNoWriMo social media accounts on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, YouTube, and Pinterest!

Local Meet Ups

If you’re local to the Lake Norman area then you might be interested in meeting up with us in person! Sometimes being surrounded by others working towards the same goal can really help boost your motivation and being in a place that isn’t your home can enhance your productivity! If you’re interested, our NaNoWriMo schedule is as follows:

NaNoPlanning
Wednesday, October 12
11am-1pm
Performance Coffee (study room)

This is your chance to get some materials and tips to help guide you on your novel writing journey! Katherine, and Carrie will help answer your questions, share tips and advice, as well as try to help give you the tools you might need to be ready to conquer the challenge come November 1st.

NaNoWriMo
Thursday, November 1st, 10th, 15th, 21st, and 29th
11am-2pm
Performance Coffee (study room)
6-8:30pm
Mooresville Public Library

These are all of our officially scheduled meet-ups! The coffeehouse has refreshments, the library has free wifi, and both locations have plenty of space to write. We’ll be taking over these spaces and filling it with the sound of clacking keyboards or scratching pens! At least one of us (Katherine, Carrie, or I) will be there in case you have any questions, etc. HOWEVER please be aware that this is NOT an opportunity for critiques, edits, etc. We are authors and will be busy working on our own projects as well! This month is dedicated purely to writing so that is all that we will be doing at these meet-ups. You don’t have to attend all of these meet-ups, though you are certainly welcome to! We also might post in the official NaNo group some impromptu meet-ups, whether at the library or a coffee shop or some such, that you are welcome to attend too!

NaNoParty
TBD

You did it! You survived the challenge! Whether you met your goal or not, you took on the challenge and made progress! If anyone is interested, everyone who participated in the NaNoWriMo challenge is invited to a party full of snacks, beverages, and fellow writers! This is a great opportunity not only to celebrate your victories but to network! (Location/date TBD)

Get to Know US!

You probably already know me, but I want to introduce you to fellow local authors Carrie Humphrey and Katherine L.E. White! If you decided to participate in any of our writing sessions or see us at the library, feel free to say hello. We look forward to meeting you!

Carrie Humphrey

Author of paranormal and contemporary romance

I live in a smallish (we’re growing every day) town in North Carolina with my husband (high school sweethearts, AW), 2 out of 3 kids (one has flown the nest, cue tears), and an incredibly spoiled cat and dog. As a family we love to travel, boat on the lake, explore, and live life to the fullest.

Katherine L.E. White

Award-winning poet and international best selling author

Katherine L.E. White is an award winning poet, essayist, and international best selling fiction writer, who has had the privilege of growing up all over the world. A rare beauty with green eyes and crazy titian curls, she goes about having grand (mis)adventures with her family and many friends, and then tries hard not to write about them. She often champions the causes of those on the fringes of society in her writing, while pretending to be an urban farmer. Pretending being the operative word.  If others were to rely on her skills to eat, they would most assuredly starve. She lives in Southern Appalachia with her husband, two children, and several animals, all of whom, thankfully, are better urban farmers than she is.
