Hello everyone!
Local indie bookstore Fred & June’s Books is starting a monthly writing group called Write Outside and I’ve been asked to lead the kickoff meeting in April! As the name suggests we will be meeting outside, specifically for this meeting we will be meeting by the waterfall (down the path across from the playground area) in Liberty Park. Hopefully the weather will be beautiful for us though it is spring in North Carolina so don’t forget your daily allergy pill and bring a face mask if you’re worried about pollen (I know I am!).
Their hope is that each month there will be a workshop led by a different published author and for the April meeting I will be leading a lil workshop in characters! I’ll bring some materials for you to take home that I’ve used to develop characters, we’ll discuss different techniques and tips, and we’ll definitely have plenty of time for you to take all of this and apply them to either new characters or existing characters you’ve already created. There will be a chance to go around and share at least one character (though I never make anyone share if they don’t want to!) and get feedback. I plan to also do a short prompt writing session where you’ll take that character and use them in response to the prompt (again with the option to share). Hopefully these exercises will help you on your writing journey! At the very least, I hope we all have a good time.
